Well, it’s finally here, the exhibition opens tomorrow and I cannot thank Nina and the team enough for all their support.
So much has happened these last few of months. I was approached about writing an article in a big American Quilting magazine back in March – the edition in now out and looks amazing.
August, despite being exhausting has been an amazing month.
ACEarts Exhibition 11th Sept – 23rd October
Three years in the making, all the major work for the upcoming solo exhibition at ACEarts is complete. We have been hanging for the last 3 days ready for opening day on Saturday the 11th of September. I will be there most days and it would be lovely to see you if you are in the area.
Pricelis Art – Chilcompton, Somerset
Lis and Dave at Pricelis Art on the Mendips in Somerset have played a huge part in my work over the last 7 years. They do the majority of my framing and produce all my Giclee prints and cards. We finished the last two pieces ready for framing a couple of weeks ago. They have pulled out all the stops and have worked really hard to get everything I need ready for next week. Thanks both…
BBC Radio Somerset Interview
I’m over the moon to be doing a live interview about my work and the exhibition with Charlie Taylor on BBC Radio Somerset on Monday the 20th of September.
Feature in American Art Quilting Magazine
I first bought a copy of Art Quilting Studio in Florida in 2013 – I had just started making bed quilts and was utterly blown away by the art being created in fabric and thread. I never thought I would one day be featured in the magazine, let alone have a piece on the front cover. A huge thank you to Danielle Williams at Stampington & Company for featuring my work about the Somerset Levels in the Autumn edition of the Series Showcase. There is an 8 page feature about how I started creating art quilts with many of the images of the work at ACEarts.
Card production
August evenings have been mostly spent making greetings cards from small Giclee prints of the work in the exhibition. I have got through a number of Audible books in the process and drank the odd G&T!
West Country Life
A couple of weeks ago Bee Bailey from the Western Daily press did a phone interview with me for a feature in the Saturday supplement of the West Country Life Magazine and Western Morning News. Bee was such a lovely person to chat to and I’m so looking forward to seeing the article in the paper tomorrow.
Somerset Open Studios
Joanna Briar and myself are ACEarts artists for this years Somerset Open Studios. We’re in the South Somerset section venue numbers 80 and 81. Joanna’s work is beautiful and I’m looking forward sharing the space during the event.
Her exhibition is called ‘The Shape of Trees’ and runs from the 18th Sep – 2nd October.
You can see Joanna’s work here.
Catalogues
Most of August has been spent producing a catalogue of the work in the exhibition. It’s been a very steep learning curve and it would not have been possible without the help and support of Lydia Needle. The catalogue features all the pieces in the exhibition and tells the story of both the birds and a brief snapshot of how I create the pieces. It will be available on my website very soon and also at the gallery.
