The Rook Is a member of the Crow family. It is a large gregarious bird, black feathered but with a white featherless area around the beak. They are very sociable birds, they roost and feed in flocks often together with Jackdaws. The term Rookery comes from the nesting habits of Rooks but the term is not exclusive to them. The breeding grounds of colony forming seabirds, marine mammals such as sea lions and even some turtles are also referred to as rookeries. I made this piece for an exhibition at Rook Lane in Frome, Somerset.
